Julbo Eyewear Helps Protect Team Furtuna Skin in the Yukon1000

As Nathan Fa’avae and Dr. Sophie Hart prepare to take on the 1,000-mile Yukon1000 paddling race, one piece of equipment they’ll rely on every hour of every day is their Julbo eyewear.

The Yukon1000 is unlike almost any other endurance race in the world. Held in Canada’s Yukon and Alaska, competitors paddle continuously under the midnight sun, with 24 hours of daylight throughout the race. Fa’avae and Hart are aiming to spend 18 hours each day on the water, making quality eye protection an essential part of their performance and safety.

“Julbo is simply the best choice for this environment,” said Fa’avae.

“When you’re paddling for five days straight in continuous daylight, your eyes are under constant stress from the sun, glare and reflections coming off the river. Looking after your vision becomes just as important as looking after your body.”

The pair, racing as Team Furtuna Skin, are returning after winning the event in 2024 and are aiming to better their previous performance in what organisers have described as the strongest field in the race’s history.

Julbo’s lightweight, high-performance eyewear provides the clarity, comfort and protection needed for long days in extreme environments. Whether navigating braided channels, reading the river ahead or simply reducing fatigue from relentless sunlight, reliable eyewear is a critical part of the team’s equipment.

“We trust Julbo because the eyewear performs in the toughest conditions,” said Fa’avae.

“In an expedition race like the Yukon1000, small details make a huge difference. Protecting our eyes means we can stay focused, read the water more effectively and keep making good decisions hour after hour.”

The Yukon1000 begins on 10 July, with Fa’avae and Hart targeting a finish of around five days as they attempt one of the world’s greatest endurance paddling races.
